Mr Anderson Cooper -you disappointed me

Jolie's Extravagant Philanthropy Is Hard to Fault ---read the NY Times article. I am listening to Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. And I am thinking, for a person whom I thought was my ideal. I even heard his speech on C-Span to the Yale Grads, his podcast on the Amazon. I then felt that maybe he was talking more about what he did than what happened, he saw and what could be done to change. Not what he felt all the time. But this column kinda threw me off completely. I definitely hadn't seen this coming. The two people who showed me the way. ..The reasons why I went for the Engineers without Borders in the first place ( why I stayed is because I was hooked)..and also the reasons why we donate money to the Sankara Eye Foundation and other charities then celebrate occasions e.g. birthdays and anniversaries.
Then it turns out that the journalist was trying to milk Ms. Jolie for all she is worth. You cannot draw parallels with what she has done simply because you are two different individuals using the same situations for opposing purposes. She is a celebrity trying to use her status to draw attention to situations which need money funneling in and doesnt mind going off the conventional track for it. A step of Bono, yes that's true. But then what you are doing, Mr.Cooper is trying to use the Hurricane pathos to sell your book and make money for yourseslf. Unless you are going to donate it to a charity. Are you? I didn't think so anyway. I was thinking of buying the book and now I am thinking might as well write off the book to my fav charity and borrow the book from the local library. That's what all of us should do, I think.

Saris ,..never thought so much is there to know

Saris have been a favorite part of almost every Indians girl's fantasy, as they see their moms dressing up every day and especially on special days. It is like the ultimate way of stating I am all grown up now.
But never in my one quarter of a lifetime did I ever think, it could go beyond the Indian shores. I found two books in the local library here in a suburb in Illinois- "The Sari- styles, patterns, history and techniques" - by Linda Lynton. I was amzed at the depth of the research in it and the pictures of old statues, saris, people wearing them. IT is really fascinating to read all this and the pics are also great, by Sanjay Singh( I am partial to this name, coz my husband's name is..).Here's where you can read more abt this.

I might soon be writing a review here, wait for that before u go buy this book.
Another that I found was the "The sari" by Mukulika Bannerjee. It is more like a coffee table book with photo essays of how the Sari figures in everyday life and how it changes as you are working, socializing or just plain doing nothing.

Interesting read, but not very helpful for me, as I was looking for some info on Saris. I was helping out some people get a fashion show organized in diffferent types of saris, patterns and styles.
I coulndt find anything not even a website on the new contemporary look of the Sari. Guess it is also the name of a fashion designer so ..I also got Sari Gueron when I googled the sari. huh!
There is also this anthropologist Chantal Boulanger http://www.devi.net/Chantal.html
who's written a book on the different styles of draping a sari."Saris: An illustrated guide to Indian art of draping". http://www.devi.net/saribook.html
THere is also some exhibition in St Paul Minnesota which has this person's exhibit, videos and demos and lectures etc on the ARt of sari Draping. Seems just my kinda of thing, but afsos, can't get my hands on it. It is expensive and also none of the libraries I know have it.
So I am stuck.
Anyways, I have now have this all sorts of info abt sari and i just want to lose it
So I am gonna stick it out here.
